Understanding the Difference Between Academic and Career Planning
At Dare County Schools, we help students plan for life beyond high school using both academic and career planning. These plans work together to support their goals, but they serve different purposes. Here’s a simple breakdown to help you understand the difference between the two.
What is Academic Planning?
Academic planning is a yearly-updated tool students use to select courses over four years of high school. These course selections are aligned with North Carolina’s graduation requirements. Students and families can view their academic plan by logging into Infinite Campus and clicking on “Academic Plan” in the menu. For questions about academic planning, please reach out to your student's school counselor.
What is Career Planning?
Career planning, or Academic and Career Development Charting, helps students set goals and explore potential career paths. This chart outlines the steps students can take to prepare for their future careers. Throughout middle school and high school, the career plan will be updated each year and can be found in Infinite Campus by clicking on “Documents” and looking for the chart under the Academic and Career Development section. Contact your school’s Career Development Coordinator to learn more.
Need Help?
