As part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students for future success, each secondary student will create a personalized Academic & Career Development Chart (ACDC) over the coming months. Under a new North Carolina law (SL 2023-134, Section 7.13.(a)), all 8th graders must have a Career Development Plan created as well as reviewed in 10th grade as part of the required promotion process. Dare County Schools is committed to the development of these plans for all students in grades 6-12 and will have students review and revise as needed each school year to ensure their academic course maps are aligned toward their post-graduation goals.

What is a Career Development Plan (CDP)?

A Career Development Plan is a comprehensive document designed to help students identify their career interests, set achievable goals, and outline the steps they need to take to achieve those goals. This plan will include elements such as career interests, skills assessments, educational and training requirements, and short- and long-term career goals. During the academic year, students will utilize www.NCCareers.org to provide career development. As a parent, you can visit this site to familiarize yourself.

How Can You Access and Monitor the Career Development Plan?

To ensure that you are well-informed and can actively support your child, your child’s ACDC will be located in the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus. This is a great opportunity to discuss with your child his/her goals, dreams, and aspirations and the steps to take to make them come true.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your school’s Career Development Coordinator or School Counselor. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s educational journey. We look forward to working together to help them achieve their career goals.
